Hello Everyone. This my second and last entry... The Filipino Christmas Traditions!
Outside the bahay-kubo, the family's "noche buena" is served awaiting for the family to arrive from the midnight Christmas mass. "Noche Buena" is the food celebration on the eve of Christmas eaten after attending the mass. After this, gifts around the Christmas tree are then distributed among family and friends. Here in our city, suman (tamale look-a-like), tibukhay (zongzi look-a-like) and sapinsapin (nyonya kuih look-a-like) are served all made from glutinous rice and wrapped in banana leaves. Present are chicken inasal (roast chicken) and the famous sikwati or the hot steaming cocoa drink perfect for the cool midnight. But young ones now prefer the fruit salad or mais con yelo (ais kacang look-a-like) over the hot cocoa. Simple celebration yet so meaningful for us Filipinos since this is the time of the year when family members even from far away countries come home to be united with their families here. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
